We collect from you and the seller all documents: V5 (registration certificate), logbook (service history), proof of ownership (registration mark), origin documents (invoice, sales agreement, possibly vehicle import declaration to UK), Certificate of Conformity (COC) if available, copy of importer's ID.
Time: 1-3 days (if buying from auction, send us the link — we'll contact the seller).
We prepare documentation for HMRC (vehicle export notification), calculate duty (~10% CIF) and VAT (23%), prepare SAD/IMP forms (Standard Customs Declarations for import to Poland). We arrange transport or work with your logistics. Vehicle crosses UK→Poland border with clearance documents.
Time: 3-5 business days.
After vehicle enters Poland we calculate excise duty (depends on vehicle type, capacity, fuel — 3.1%-4.7% for petrol cars >2000cc, 3.1%-4.7% for diesel >1900cc, exemption for electric until 2027, different rates for motorcycles, quads). We prepare excise declaration in the PIT system (polish tax portal). You pay excise + transaction tax (in some regions).
Time: 2-3 days.
Vehicle undergoes technical inspection (IVA — Inspection of Vehicle Authority, similar inspection to MOT) at a designated centre. We prepare registration application at the transport office (all customs and excise documents must be in place). Upon approval you receive Polish registration document and registration plates. Vehicle is ready for legal use in Poland.
Time: 3-4 days (depending on technical inspector availability).
Main documents are: V5 (UK registration certificate), proof of ownership (logbook), origin documents (invoice, sales agreement), COC (Certificate of Conformity) if available, copy of importer's ID/tax number. For vehicles over 40 years old, VE600 certificate from DVLA UK is required. We provide complete checklists for each vehicle type — you can send us an auction link, we'll prepare the checklist.
Customs duty on a passenger car is approximately 10% of vehicle value (CIF — Cost, Insurance, Freight). VAT is 23% of the total: vehicle value + duty + transport costs. Excise duty depends on vehicle type (petrol/diesel/hybrid/electric) and engine capacity. Individual pricing depends on vehicle type and documents. We offer a preliminary calculator on the website — enter make/model/year, we'll calculate approximate costs. Exact calculation after document analysis.
Yes. Excise duty in Poland applies to passenger cars above 2000 cc (petrol engines) and 1900 cc (diesel engines). Rates range from 3.1% to 4.7% depending on capacity and fuel type. Electric vehicles are exempt from excise duty until 2027 (EU and national decision). Motorhomes, quads and motorcycles >400cc have their own excise rates — mopeds ≤400cc are exempt. For goods for relocation (vehicle as real property of importer, used >12 months) excise exemption is possible — requires certificate from UK authorities confirming relocation goods status.
V5 is the UK vehicle registration certificate which must be translated into Polish by a sworn translator — this is required by the local authority registration office. MSVA technical inspection (equivalent to MOT) is required for the vehicle in the UK before departure to confirm technical condition and safety. Valid for 12 months. Upon arrival in Poland the vehicle undergoes technical inspection (IVA/MSVA) at a designated centre (e.g. transport office inspection point) — this is an inspection similar to Polish technical review but more detailed for imported vehicles.
Yes, we handle all vehicle types: passenger cars, motorcycles (>400cc and ≤400cc mopeds), motorhomes, quads, boats, trailers, car transporters. Each type has different customs and registration requirements. Motorcycles >400cc are subject to full excise procedures. Mopeds ≤400cc are exempt from excise. Motorhomes can be registered as living vehicles (possible excise exemption if goods for relocation) or commercial (excise mandatory). Quads are registered as off-road vehicles — excise mandatory. Boats — no excise, registration in vessel registry. We quote each scenario individually.
Standard timeframe is 10-14 business days from when documents are ready in the UK: 3-5 days for UK→Poland customs clearance (border), 2-3 days for Polish customs procedures (PIT system, excise), 3-4 days for technical inspection and registration at the transport office. If the vehicle has COC and all documents are complete, the process can be faster — 7-10 days possible. Sometimes waiting for technical inspector availability can add a few days (especially in smaller towns). We start the process from the UK side — you wait for a vehicle with Polish registration plates.
