The UK is an island. Every good must cross water. Choosing the port of entry is a strategic logistics decision. Goods are cleared differently in Dover than in Felixstowe.

1. Port of Dover (and Eurotunnel) – The RoRo Kingdom

Dover and the nearby Channel Tunnel (Folkestone) are the "artery" of trade with Europe. They handle thousands of lorries daily.

• Type: RoRo (Roll-on Roll-off). The vehicle drives on and off.
• Customs system: GVMS (Pre-lodgement).
• For whom: For road transport from Poland, Central Europe. Fast goods, food, general cargo.
• Specifics: No parking space. Everything must be ready before entry. If you have an error in the documents, you end up at the notorious Inland Border Facility (IBF) parking in Sevington (30 km from the port).

2. Port of Felixstowe – Container Giant

The largest container port in the UK.

• Type: LoLo (Lift-on Lift-off). Sea containers.
• Customs system: Inventory Linked (Destin8).
• For whom: For imports from the Far East (China, India) and short sea shipping from ports such as Rotterdam or Gdynia.
• Specifics: Often congested. Goods may wait a week for a driver slot (VBS). Clearance takes place "on site".

3. Port of Immingham / Hull – Northern Gateway

Ports on the east coast, ideal for deliveries to northern England and Scotland.

• Type: Mixed (RoRo and containers).
• For whom: Ferries from the Netherlands, Germany, Scandinavia. An alternative to Dover if you want to avoid congestion in the south.

For road transport from Poland (TIR):

• Dover/Tunnel: Fastest (24-48h from Poland), most connections, but highest risk of customs delays.
• Harwich/Hull/Immingham (Ferry from the Netherlands): Longer travel time (night ferry), but the driver takes a break on the ferry. Often more expensive for the ferry but cheaper for fuel (fewer kilometres in the UK).
