Frequently asked questions about UK imports

Do I always have to pay duty when importing from the UK to Poland?expand_more

Not always. Under the TCA goods of UK origin are duty-free provided the rules of origin are met and an exporter's statement is attached. Without proof of origin, CN rates apply (typically 0–12%). VAT at 23% is payable in almost all cases.

How much does import clearance from the UK to Poland cost?expand_more

Standard import clearance is £45–£150 on the UK side plus clearance on the Polish side (200–600 PLN). Exact pricing depends on the number of lines, type of goods and procedure. These are indicative ranges — exact pricing after document submission.

What documents are required to import from the UK?expand_more

Standard requirements: commercial invoice, packing list, CMR, EORI number (GB and PL), statement of origin (for TCA preference). For special goods (food, alcohol, chemicals) additional sanitary, veterinary or excise certificates are required.

How long does customs clearance take when importing from the UK?expand_more

Standard UK clearance takes up to 2 hours after receipt of the full document set. Polish clearance takes a further 1–4 hours. The driver can depart upon receipt of the export MRN if documentation is complete.

How does Regime 42 differ from standard clearance?expand_more

Regime 42 is a zero-VAT import procedure for goods destined for onward intra-Community supply (ICS). It avoids VAT payment in the country of import — VAT is accounted for by the final recipient in their EU country. It requires an active VAT-EU number and compliance with documentary conditions. Cost: £80–£200.
