Not always. Under the TCA goods of UK origin are duty-free provided the rules of origin are met and an exporter's statement is attached. Without proof of origin, CN rates apply (typically 0–12%). VAT at 23% is payable in almost all cases.
Standard import clearance is £45–£150 on the UK side plus clearance on the Polish side (200–600 PLN). Exact pricing depends on the number of lines, type of goods and procedure. These are indicative ranges — exact pricing after document submission.
Standard requirements: commercial invoice, packing list, CMR, EORI number (GB and PL), statement of origin (for TCA preference). For special goods (food, alcohol, chemicals) additional sanitary, veterinary or excise certificates are required.
Standard UK clearance takes up to 2 hours after receipt of the full document set. Polish clearance takes a further 1–4 hours. The driver can depart upon receipt of the export MRN if documentation is complete.
Regime 42 is a zero-VAT import procedure for goods destined for onward intra-Community supply (ICS). It avoids VAT payment in the country of import — VAT is accounted for by the final recipient in their EU country. It requires an active VAT-EU number and compliance with documentary conditions. Cost: £80–£200.
