✓ Driver Checklist — UK Border 2026

For HGV drivers crossing the UK border. Check every item before departure and keep this in the cab.

Section 1 — Required BEFORE departure from Poland

GMR number (Goods Movement Reference)
Generated by the customs broker — mandatory to enter a GVMS port (Dover, Eurotunnel, Harwich)
Export MRN
Export customs declaration number from PUESC (Poland) — confirms goods are legally leaving the EU
CMR — signed by the consignor
Complete consignment note — keep a copy in the cab throughout the journey
Commercial invoice — copy in the cab
HMRC officers may ask to see it — value, goods description, country of origin
Customs broker contact number
Easy Clearance: +44 7404 091503 — save in your phone BEFORE departure

Section 2 — At the UK border (port entry)

Give your GMR number at the port gate
The GVMS system verifies the GMR automatically — without a valid GMR: entry to the terminal is refused
Stay calm during any inspection
Officers' questions concern the goods, not the driver. Answer briefly and consistently with the documents.
Do not open the trailer without the officer's instruction
Opening it yourself is a breach of customs procedure — wait for a clear instruction from the officer
Import MRN — check SMS/email
Your customs broker should send the import MRN before you arrive at the UK port

Section 3 — If stopped or subject to examination

Call your customs broker immediately
Easy Clearance available 24/7: +44 7404 091503 — do not wait, call straight away
Do not sign any documents
Not without speaking to your customs broker first — a signature may constitute consent to seizure
Photograph everything
Goods, seals, inspection area, documents — photos help your broker act quickly

🛑 Remember: Without a GMR you cannot enter the port terminal. Without an export MRN you may be stopped by EU customs. You must have both numbers before leaving the warehouse — not after arriving at the port.
